Hungerburgbahn / Hungerburg Funicular

Die neue Hungerburgbahn wurde von Zaha Hadid entworfen und 2007 eröffnet. In ca. 20 Minuten gelangt man so vom Stadtzentrum ins Gebiet der Nordkette im Karwendelgebirge. Für die vier Station ließ sich Zaha Hadid von der regionalen Umgebung, der Schnee- und Eislandschaft inspirieren und so sollen die Stationen ans Eisgletscher erinnern.

The new Hungerburg Funicular was designed by Zaha Hadid and opend in 2007. In about 20 minutes you get from the city centre to the Nordkette in the Karwendel mountains. For the four stations, Zaha Hadid was inspired by the ice and snow landscape of the region, and as result the stations resemble ice glaciers. This is achieved by the arched shape of the roofs and the firmly anchored concrete bases.
